Overview
More than just preparation for the FAA practical test, the goal in each of IFT’s ground and flight courses is to prepare you for success in future training courses by instilling foundational knowledge, skills and abilities. You will learn proper aircraft control, navigation, and operation techniques along with good judgment and decision-making skills.
In the ground portion of courses, each stage concludes with a knowledge test; the course ends with a comprehensive final test. You will then complete the FAA Knowledge Test for the certificate or rating you are seeking. Each stage of the flight portion concludes with a stage check that consists of two parts: oral test and flight test. During the oral test, you must answer scenario-based questions that show higher levels of learning in the application of knowledge to real-world situations. The flight test is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills and airmanship with the appropriate level of proficiency. The course ends with a comprehensive test that evaluates all subjects and skills covered in each stage. Upon passing the end-of-course check, you then take the Practical Test which leads to receiving the FAA Pilot Certificate.
Career Training
The Professional Pilot Certification Program (PPCP) is a pilot training program designed to train students with no prior aviation experience to be commercial pilots and flight instructors, while preparing them for a career as a professional pilot. Taken in succession over a continuous time frame, these courses build on each other, and provide students with training time (and cost) savings when reaching the advanced courses. The integrated courses will supply students with the means necessary to attain the needed certifications, and build the appropriate experience for career advancement.
Non-Career Training
Persons interested in flight training with recreational or non-career aviation goals may take courses individually as modules. Each modular course is conducted separately from other courses. Due to the variety of training backgrounds and experience levels students bring, these courses contain more training hours than the integrated courses. However, FAA minimums still apply, so students may complete stand-alone modules in less than time than the syllabus plans.
Your Choice
Whether you decide to take integrated or modular courses, IFT will work with you individually to tailor a program that will meet your needs and help you achieve your goals. In either case, you will get quality instruction that will do more than just prepare you for a test – you will have a foundation that will set you up for a long, safe, and enjoyable life in aviation.

Private Pilot Course – Part 141
The Private Pilot Course is your first step to becoming a pilot. It is designed to give you a solid foundation of airmanship skills and abilities that will make you a safe aviator for years to come. This course focuses on fundamental skills in aircraft control and judgment and decision-making. Because we want you to focus on proficiency rather than hours, we have made this course with 60 hours of flight training; it also includes 35 hours of ground school.
This course is conducted in the Cessna 172R Skyhawk and Precision Flight Controls Flight Training Device.
Prerequisites: None
Private Pilot Course – Part 61
The Private Pilot Course conducted under Part 61 is nearly identical to the course conducted under Part 141. It provides the same number of flight training hours (60) and the same number of ground school hours (35). The Part 61 course focuses on training pilots to the same level of airmanship and proficiency as in the Part 141 course. The Part 61 course allows more flexibility in crediting previous flight and ground training toward your overall training.
This course is conducted in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk and Precision Flight Controls or Elite Flight Training Devices.
Prerequisites: None
Instrument Airplane Rating Course
The Instrument Rating Course trains you how to fly in the clouds with precision. You will learn to enhance your situational awareness abilities while honing your aircraft control skills when flying solely by reference to the instruments. This course is planned for 50 hours of flight training and 30 hours of ground school.
This course is conducted in the Cessna 172R Skyhawk and Precision Flight Controls Flight Training Device.
Prerequisites: Private Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single-Engine Land; recent flight experience as prescribed in
14 CFR §61.56 and §61.57
Instrument/Commercial Courses
This integrated course combines training for the Instrument Airplane Rating with Commercial Pilot training. This combination affords you more time to polish your piloting skills while learning advanced maneuvers and subjects. This course contains 65 hours of ground school and 155 hours of flight training.
Upon completion, you will obtain:
- Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Land ratings;
- Instrument Airplane rating.
This course is conducted in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, Tecnam P2006T or similar,
and the Precision Flight Controls, Elite Flight Training Devices.
Prerequisites: Private Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single-Engine Land; recent flight experience as prescribed in 14 CFR §61.56 and §61.57
Commercial Multi-Engine Add-On Rating
This course is a flight-only course designed for pilots who wish to add the Multi-Engine Land rating to their Commercial Pilot Certificate. Training includes 7 hours of flight training and 3 hours of training in a Flight Training Device (ATD). Included is a review of instrument procedures as applied to multi-engine operations. The course is designed for pilots who hold an initial instrument rating and commercial certificate in the airplane category.
This course is conducted in the Tecnam P2006T, and the Red Bird Flight Training Device.
Prerequisites: Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single-Engine Land; Instrument rating; recent flight experience as prescribed in 14 CFR §61.56 and §61.57.
This course is designed and conducted under 14 CFR §61.
Courses Under Development
Whether you want to obtain your initial FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or you are have already obtained your CFI and want to add single-engine airplane privileges, we have two courses which are being developed to meet your training objectives. Both will be conducted as Part 61 courses.
Certified Flight Instructor – Multi-Engine & Instrument Course
Please note: This course is not open for new students at this time. Contact us for more information.
Being a certified flight instructor (CFI) is an important step with much responsibility. Likewise, we recognize that when training new CFIs, it is critically important that we train you not just to pass the practical test, but to be an effective instructor and a valuable addition to the professional aviation community. This course prepares you to train students of all levels by emphasizing practical application of teaching methods and developing your problem solving skills. When you graduate from this course you will be able to confidently accept a position as a flight instructor knowing that you can instill proper attitudes, skills and abilities in your students.
This course assumes that you have a high level of proficiency in multi-engine and instrument flying, and contains only 15 hours of flight training. However, because this is an initial CFI course you will have 60 hours of ground school to begin developing your teaching skills.
This course is conducted in the Cessna 172R Skyhawk, Tecnam P2006T, and the Precision Flight Controls, Elite, Red Bird or similar.
Prerequisites: Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Multi-Engine Land; recent flight experience prescribed in 14 CFR §61.56 and §61.57
Certified Flight Instructor – Single-Engine Add-on Course
Please note: This course is not open for new students at this time. Contact us for more information.
This course is designed for new or currently active flight instructors seeking the addition of single-engine airplane privileges to their current and valid CFI certificate. This course assumes that you have a high level of proficiency in single-engine commercial maneuvers, and contains only 6 hours of flight training. However, because this is an add-on CFI course you will have only five (5) hours of ground school to review the technical knowledge necessary to pass the practical test.
